The standard specification of the ASTM A179 (SA 179) standard covers cold drawn seamless steel pipe for tubular heat exchanger, condensers and other similar heat transfer equipment.
The ASTM A179 tube covers the OD from 1/8 "to 3", which is 3.2 mm to 76.2 mm. Other diameters and thicknesses smaller than the specified sizes are also applicable to this standard, but the mechanical properties are not applicable for sizes less than 1/8 "and 3.2 mm, or thickness less than 0.015 inches 0.4 mm.
Applications: For tubular heat exchangers, condensers and similar heat transfer devices.
